The cheapest Asia + Europe plan that covers it, for the coverage selected by default. Your phone counts a little differently from the network, so keep some margin. More in our guide: how much data do I need?

Two ways to cover Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka doesn’t have its own plan in our shop. Two regional eSIMs cover it, and the buy box on this page has both:

  • Asia + Europe: Sri Lanka on Mobitel. Usually the cheaper one, and it also covers Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and most of Europe.
  • Asia 28: Sri Lanka on Dialog and Mobitel, both with 5G. It also covers India and Nepal, which Asia + Europe doesn’t.

Both slow down to 128 kbps when your data runs out, so messages and maps keep working.

Dialog and Mobitel

Sri Lanka switched on 5G in December 2025, on Dialog and SLT-Mobitel. In Opensignal’s February 2026 report, Dialog won Best Network and eight awards outright, and SLT-Mobitel won all four speed awards. Asia 28 has both; Asia + Europe has Mobitel only. In the towns either is fine. If you’re heading far off the main routes, two networks give you more chance of signal.

Where you’ll use it

  • Colombo: ride apps such as PickMe and Uber, tuk-tuk prices and maps.
  • The train from Kandy to Ella: the most beautiful ride in the country, through tea hills and tunnels. Signal comes and goes, so download your playlist first.
  • Sigiriya, Dambulla and the Cultural Triangle: lots of photos and some long drives.
  • The south and east coasts (Galle, Mirissa, Arugam Bay): beaches, surf spots and cafés with wifi.

How much data for Sri Lanka

Two weeks of normal use (maps, ride apps, messages and socials) comes to about 8 to 9 GB, so 10 GB is the sweet spot. A month is closer to 20 GB. The table above has today’s prices for the selected eSIM.

Sri Lanka with India or the Maldives?

India and Nepal: take Asia 28, which covers all three. The Maldives have their own eSIM. Our route planner checks whether one eSIM or two is cheaper for your trip.

The rules in full

Before you buy

Why isn't there a Sri Lanka-only eSIM?

Our network partner doesn't offer a plan for Sri Lanka alone yet. Two of our regional eSIMs cover it: Asia + Europe and Asia 28.

Which network will I be on in Sri Lanka?

On Asia + Europe, Mobitel. On Asia 28, Dialog and Mobitel, both with 5G; your phone picks the strongest.

Which one should I take?

Only Sri Lanka, or Sri Lanka with Thailand, Malaysia or Europe? Asia + Europe, usually the cheapest. Want Dialog as well, or combining with India or Nepal? Asia 28.

When should I install it?

At home, on wifi, a day or two before you fly. The plan only starts counting when your phone first connects in Sri Lanka.

What happens when my data runs out?

On the 3 GB plan and up you stay online: speed drops to 128 kbps, enough for messages and maps. The 1 GB plan stops when the data is used up. Need more? Order another plan in two minutes; it comes with its own QR code.

How does Unlimited work?

You get 1 GB a day at full speed. After that it's 5 Mbps until your daily allowance resets: enough for maps, socials and video calls. Then the next full-speed GB starts.

Can I keep my own SIM for calls and texts?

Yes. Your home SIM stays in, our eSIM does the data. Turn data roaming off for your home line and you won't get a surprise bill.

What if it doesn't work?

If it won't connect because of a fault on our side or the network's, we fix it with you. If we can't, you get your money back or a new eSIM, your choice. Never installed it? Full refund. The full rules are in our terms.

Travelling further?

One eSIM for the whole trip: these also cover Sri Lanka.

Or a local eSIM for the next country in Asia.
