How much data for Indonesia?
Light is maps, messages and ride apps (about 0.25 GB a day). Normal adds socials and stories (about 0.6 GB a day). Heavy is streaming, hotspot and work: that's unlimited.
| Trip | Light | Normal | Heavy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days | €7.493 GB, 30 days | €9.495 GB, 30 days | €19.497 days unlimited |
| 14 days | €9.495 GB, 30 days | €14.9910 GB, 30 days | €32.9915 days unlimited |
| 30 days | €14.9910 GB, 30 days | €25.9920 GB, 30 days | €54.9930 days unlimited |
The cheapest Indonesia plan that covers it. Your phone counts a little differently from the network, so keep some margin. More in our guide: how much data do I need?
Four networks, one eSIM
Indonesia is 17,000 islands and no network is strongest on all of them. This eSIM has the big ones: Telkomsel, Indosat, XLSmart and Smartfren (which has merged into XLSmart). Your phone connects to the strongest and switches by itself.
The rankings shift. In Opensignal’s July 2026 report, XLSmart won the most awards, including the 5G speed awards, after its merger with Smartfren gave it more spectrum. Telkomsel kept the Coverage award. Indosat won Consistent Quality. In short: XLSmart is fast where it has 5G, Telkomsel reaches furthest. You have both.
Tip: on a small island with weak signal, go to your network settings, switch off automatic selection and try each network. One of them is usually better than the rest.
Bali, and beyond Bali
Most trips start on Bali, and many never leave it. If yours does, the eSIM goes with you: it works anywhere these networks have signal, from the Gilis and Lombok to Flores and Komodo, Java and Sumatra.
What changes is how you use it:
- Bali: Grab and Gojek for every ride and every meal, maps through Canggu’s back lanes, and lots of stories. Plan on the higher end of your daily estimate.
- The Gilis and Nusa Penida: boats, beaches and snorkelling. Download the boat times before you leave the harbour.
- Komodo and the boat trips around Labuan Bajo: days at sea, far from the masts. Download what you need before you sail and save your uploads for the harbour.
- Java: long train rides between Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bromo. Download a few episodes before you board.
Before you fly
Your eSIM is a foreign line that uses Indonesian networks, so there’s no Indonesian SIM to register and no passport photocopy at a counter. Indonesia does have IMEI rules for phones on local SIM cards; they’re the reason the SIM desks at the airport ask for your phone. Staying longer than 90 days? Check with customs on arrival.
How much data for Indonesia
Two weeks on Bali with normal use (maps, Grab, messages and socials) comes to about 8 to 9 GB, so 10 GB is the sweet spot. A month is closer to 20 GB. Work from a café in Canggu or Ubud on your laptop’s hotspot? Look at Unlimited. The table above has today’s prices.
On the 3 GB plan and bigger, you stay online at 128 kbps when the data runs out: slow, but enough for messages and maps.
Combining with Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand?
The Southeast Asia eSIM covers Indonesia together with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. On that plan, Indonesia runs on Telkomsel and XL.

Before you buy
Does it work on Bali?
Yes. Bali is part of Indonesia, and this eSIM uses the same networks as an Indonesian SIM there: Telkomsel, Indosat and XLSmart.
Do I need to register my phone's IMEI?
Indonesia's IMEI registration is for phones used with a local Indonesian SIM. Our eSIM connects as a foreign line, which is why most travellers on a short trip skip the customs desk. Staying longer than 90 days, or unsure? Ask customs (Bea Cukai) when you arrive.
Which network is best on the smaller islands?
It varies per island, and that's exactly why it helps to have several. If the signal is weak, pick another network by hand in your phone's network settings.
When should I install it?
At home, on wifi, a day or two before you fly. The plan only starts counting when your phone first connects in Indonesia.
What happens when my data runs out?
On the 3 GB plan and up you stay online: speed drops to 128 kbps, enough for messages and maps. The 1 GB plan stops when the data is used up. Need more? Order another plan in two minutes; it comes with its own QR code.
How does Unlimited work?
You get 1 GB a day at full speed. After that it's 5 Mbps until your daily allowance resets: enough for maps, socials and video calls. Then the next full-speed GB starts.
Can I keep my own SIM for calls and texts?
Yes. Your home SIM stays in, our eSIM does the data. Turn data roaming off for your home line and you won't get a surprise bill.
What if it doesn't work?
If it won't connect because of a fault on our side or the network's, we fix it with you. If we can't, you get your money back or a new eSIM, your choice. Never installed it? Full refund. The full rules are in our terms.
