The cheapest Asia 28 plan that covers it. Your phone counts a little differently from the network, so keep some margin. More in our guide: how much data do I need?
How Nepal works on our eSIM
Nepal doesn’t have its own plan in our shop. It’s covered by Asia 28, which also works in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and 23 more countries. If Nepal is one stop on a longer trip through Asia, that’s handy: one QR code for all of it.
The buy box on this page sells Asia 28. When your data runs out, you stay online at 128 kbps: slow, but enough for messages.
Ncell: cities yes, high trails less
In Nepal, Asia 28 runs on Ncell, on 4G. Ncell is one of the country’s two big networks, with good coverage in Kathmandu, Pokhara and the towns. Nepal Telecom, the other one, isn’t on this plan. We’d rather say that here than have you find out halfway up a valley.
In the mountains, every network gets patchy. On the popular treks the signal comes and goes in the lower villages and becomes rare higher up. Many teahouses sell wifi. Plan for being offline:
- Download the trek area in Google Maps or Maps.me before you leave Kathmandu or Pokhara.
- Save your permits, insurance details and bookings as screenshots or PDFs.
- Tell people at home when you’ll be out of reach, and bring a power bank.
Where you’ll use it
- Kathmandu: Thamel, Durbar Square, ride apps and booking your bus or flight to the mountains.
- Pokhara: the lakeside, paragliding videos and planning the Annapurna trek.
- Chitwan: jungle safaris and lots of photos.
- The buses: long rides on mountain roads. Keep something to watch offline.
How much data for Nepal
Two weeks of normal use in Kathmandu and Pokhara comes to about 8 to 9 GB. On a trek you’ll use much less, because there’s little signal. For a typical three to four weeks with a trek, 10 GB is usually enough. The table above has today’s prices.
Nepal with India or Sri Lanka
Asia 28 is the only one of our eSIMs that covers India, Nepal and Sri Lanka together. In India it runs on Airtel, in Sri Lanka on Dialog and Mobitel. More about India and Sri Lanka.
Networks and plans come from our own catalogue.

Before you buy
Why isn't there a Nepal-only eSIM?
Our network partner doesn't offer a plan for Nepal alone yet. Asia 28 covers Nepal and 27 more countries, including India and Sri Lanka, which many travellers combine with Nepal.
Which network will I be on in Nepal?
Ncell, on 4G. Nepal Telecom, the other big network, isn't on this plan.
Will I have signal on the Everest or Annapurna trek?
In the lower villages often, higher up less and less, on any network. Download your maps and route before you start, and count on teahouse wifi higher up.
When should I install it?
At home, on wifi, a day or two before you fly. The plan only starts counting when your phone first connects in Nepal.
What happens when my data runs out?
On the 3 GB plan and up you stay online: speed drops to 128 kbps, enough for messages and maps. The 1 GB plan stops when the data is used up. Need more? Order another plan in two minutes; it comes with its own QR code.
How does Unlimited work?
You get 1 GB a day at full speed. After that it's 5 Mbps until your daily allowance resets: enough for maps, socials and video calls. Then the next full-speed GB starts.
Can I keep my own SIM for calls and texts?
Yes. Your home SIM stays in, our eSIM does the data. Turn data roaming off for your home line and you won't get a surprise bill.
What if it doesn't work?
If it won't connect because of a fault on our side or the network's, we fix it with you. If we can't, you get your money back or a new eSIM, your choice. Never installed it? Full refund. The full rules are in our terms.
Travelling further?
One eSIM for the whole trip: these also cover Nepal.
Or a local eSIM for the next country in Asia.
